Suisun City California is located just south of Travis Air Force Base; also known as the Gateway to the Pacific. Suisun City embodies a cross-section of the endlessly attractive California lifestyle. The City's 30,000 residents have easy freeway, Interstate and boat access to Northern California's two major urban centers – the San Francisco Bay Area and the Sacramento Capitol region – as well as the Stockton metro area. A modern train station designed with that old time feeling also strategically connects Suisun City to San Francisco, Sacramento with connections to any major city throughout the United States. The public plaza and amphitheater, with regularly scheduled events offers entertainment and amenities for boaters and land dwellers alike. Our residents also enjoy a small-town lifestyle and sensibility often associated with communities in the western breadbasket of the Central Valley. The legacy of Suisun goes back to its first residents, originally home to the Patwin Indians who named the city Suisun, which means, “west wind”.
Founded in 1851 as a focal point of commerce and transportation during California's Gold Rush, Suisun City has not forgotten its roots. The community gathers regularly for civic events in Old Town, which is replete with public spaces, promenades and an historic shopping district centered on the picturesque waterfront. City Hall sits on the waterfront's eastern side with its towering dome providing a familiar local landmark.
The Suisun City Marsh is one of the largest contiguous wetland preserves in the nation. The 84,000 acre marsh is the largest remaining coastal wetland in California, luring nature lovers, fishermen, hunters, boaters and sightseers year round.
The Suisun City Marina was completely rebuilt in 1994 providing 150 berthing slips along with 300 feet of guest dock and free public boat launching. A new Harbormaster building was also constructed at 800 Kellogg Street. The Suisun Channel provides deep water access for most recreational boats and provides direct access to the waterways of the California Delta. The Suisun Channel is linked by the Suisun Marsh to Suisun and Grizzly bays and provides continuous boat access to both the Sacramento River and the San Francisco Bay. The Channel and Marsh provide outstanding Sturgeon and Striped Bass fishing. Other recreational attributes include; excellent sightseeing, bird watching, pleasure boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, and kayaking in addition to other water related activities. One of the local favorites is the annual bathtub derby. Suisun City: Harbor Fest, bathtub derby, kiddy carnival, main street games, Art and Wine Festival, Dixieland jazz festival, at Harbor Plaza, Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-2.
