Yountville, Also known as the “The Heart of Napa Valley”, is located between the town of Calistoga and The City of Napa in California. A fur trader named George Calvert Yount founded what is now known as Yountville. In 1831, George Calvert Yount was the first Caucasian settler in the Napa Valley. In 1836, Yount obtained a Spanish land grant from the Mexican government, the first such grant to be awarded to a United States citizen in northern California and the Napa Valley. George could have settled anywhere in the Napa Valley, he chose “The Heart of Napa Valley”, known today as Yountville. Legend has it that Yount planted the first Napa vine in the Valley. Yount was considered responsible for establishing the first vineyard in the Napa Valley. Yountville is therefore known as "the birthplace of Napa Valley's wine industry," according to the Vintage 1870 website. In loving memory to the village founder George Calvert Yount, the town’s people named the village Yountville in 1867 two years after his death.

Located in the heart of scenic Napa Valley, the Veterans Home of California-Yountville (VHC-Yountville) is a community of and for veterans. Over 1,100 veterans (both men and women) live at the home. Founded in 1884, VHC-Yountville is the largest veterans home in the United States. It provides residential accommodations and a wealth of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for independent living, including: a 1,200 seat theater, 9-hole golf course, 35,000 volume library, creative arts center, swimming pool and fitness center, resident-operated television station, baseball stadium, RV park, bowling lanes, auto hobby shop, a base exchange store, chapel and coffee shop.
The Veterans Home of California-Yountville also offers Residential Care (assisted living) capacity and three levels of inpatient health care: Intermediate Care, Skilled Nursing Care, and General Acute Care. General acute care is also provided at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, St. Helena Hospital in St. Helena, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco.
